Tip Sheet

The day of your wedding is a busy one and we want to do as much as we can to help you relax and enjoy the fruits of your labor during your reception.  With over 25 years of experience, we have come up with some great tips to help your reception flow as seamless as possible.

  1. Pacing the event is very important. Many events drag on and do not keep the attention of the guests while some try to do too much too soon.  Make sure your reception flows, without being too choppy.  If you are concerned with the flow of your reception, feel free to discuss it with the DJ or your Wedding Planner.
  2. Try to keep your pictures to a minimum after the ceremony.  Taking hours of pictures while your guests wait can be perceived as rude and ruin your wedding reception.  Instead, try taking pictures BEFORE the ceremony starts.
  3. Obviously, there will be pictures that need to be taken after your ceremony, so during this time have something for your guests to do - appetizers, cocktail hour or a picture slide show are fun and easy ways to keep your guests happy and entertained.
  4. It is beyond important for the Bride and Groom to set the tone of the event.  If you would like to have an amazing high energy dance party for your reception, be out on the dance floor often and not just the slow songs.  Engage your guests and encourage them to dance, laugh and have a fun time.
  5. Try to have most of the important wedding traditions timed closely together.  For example; after the meal do the toast, cake cutting and special dances as a group.  Do not delay the toast or the cake cutting as your guests may leave and finding your "toasters" could be difficult.
  6. Once the traditional aspects of your wedding have been satisfied, then start the real dancing.  Chopping up your reception by interspersing dancing in-between the toast and cake cutting can cause your reception to become too disjointed.
  7. Designate ONE person to cue the timing of special events during the reception and who can act as a moderator for unruly guests during the reception.
  8. Let the DJ be your best friend!  He has been watching your guests dance and has seen them take a seat during blah songs.  Depending on the tone of your Wedding Reception, he can make sure the guests are having a fun time, on the dance floor and enjoying the atmosphere.  Do not feel like you have to create an entire playlist for your guests, instead give your DJ a heads up as to the "flavor" of reception you would like to have.
